The genesis of the College may be traced
to a public meeting held on December 15,
1940, at 44/A, New Shambazar Street. A
resolution was adopted in that meeting
to the effect that an Arts, Science and
Commerce college be opened in memory of
the late illustrious Maharaja Sri Manindra
Chandra Nandy of Cossimbazar at 20 Ramkanto
Bose Street, Kolkata, which premises his
son Hon'ble Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandi
had kindly consented to make over to the
proposed Governing Body of the College.
The college was accordingly named Maharaja
Manindra Chandra College. The College,
in course of time under the able stewardship
of its, illustrious principals assumed
the status of one of the premier colleges
of Kolkata.
Location of the College :
The College is situated on Bhupen Bose
Avenue near Shambazar five – point
crossing, which is the centre of all tram
and bus routes in North Kolkata and Metro
Station. The Proximity of the college
to Howrah, Sealdah and Dumdum Railway
Station, as also to the Bagbazar ferry
ghat enables students to commute from
the suburban areas of North 24 Parganas
and Hooghly district.
Second Campus :
The College enjoys a second campus in
a new building donated by Smt. Bandita
Mukherjee, the daughter of our late Principal,
Biswanath Mukherjee at 12 Padmanath Lane,
Kolkata-4.
